The development of the Riviera Palisades was inspired by Alphonso Bell's travels through France, Spain, and Italy. He used his oil fortune to buy 22,000 acres of land from Bel Air to the sea, and launched the Riviera development in 1926. His hopes were to create an area with an unmistakable air of prestige, and the Riviera Palisades reflects his high ideals to this day. The Riviera Palisades also maintains its heritage as a recreational haven since the 1920's when stars the likes of Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Mary Pickford frequented the polo fields of the Riviera Country Club. It was also these Polo fields that onetime resident Ronald Reagan argued at City Hall to preserve from developers. |

Characterized by large lots, tree-lined streets and major estates, the Riviera stands as one of the finest neighborhoods in California, offering a retreat from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles just minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches along the coast. |
